'Boil water' warning to thousands

Posted by in Ramblings Comment on this

About 45,000 people in north Wales have been told to boil their drinking water after an increase in bacteria in reservoirs supplying the area.

Wonder how many months it will take Welsh Water to get its arse in gear this time. Nice to know they took preventative methods since last time.

Time to pack my stuff and head back to Bangor…probably a good idea to pick up a ton of bottled water on the way back.

My week off

Posted by in Ramblings Comment on this

I’ve taken a week off work to relax…well…to drink and build furniture for the studio with Alex, not at the same time mind, I’m yet to find a situation where mixing alcohol and power tools is a good idea.  It’s strange what relaxes me!  It’s times like this that make me really miss being a student, full time work sucks, and I enjoy my own little projects way too much.

I’d suppose I’d better stop moping on the sofa listening to music and go to bed, early start – madness.

fabulous!

This years olympics are really looking so stunningly good! Despite China’s image of the games (the right little girl etc). I do think that overall they have been such a huge success!

The spirit of the Olympics I believe is that we all enjoy sport regardless of political views, and whilst we may not agree with each other’s views it does prove that we can still get along together.

What will stay with me forever from this Games are the memories of Russia and Georgia playing each other in the beach volley ball just the day the two countries announced a cease fire. The sporting attitudes were a pleasure to witness.

I think we must remember that the games are not just a success for China’s image or Team GB’s gold count but also for human kindness. They continue to prove that we can get along on the same pitch, field, lake or sea.

Why is it that…

Kenyans are such good long distance runners?

Not in a generalisable, entire population manner you understand, but in the way that during the Olympics they’re always up there in contention for the gold medals in such events. Whereas say for example, the Slovenians, Turkish and Ethiopian athletes generally aren’t…

Two days until I return to the house for a week, can’t wait!

The wonders of tech support

Posted by in Geekery Comment on this

HP Tech support have just given me the most useless and unrelated support reply I have ever experienced.

The problem I am experiencing is with connecting my HP Pavilion laptop to the Xbox 360 using the Media Center Extender function.  After many hours of searching (and swearing), I narrowed the issue down to the Verisoft fingerprint scanning software on the laptop, but figured it may be a good idea to ask HP if there is any known fix apart from uninstalling it (I find it quite useful for cider fuelled login purposes).

How wrong could I be…

I’ve decided to give drink a rest for a bit, at least a week and see how I feel.  I’ve bought a bottle of Coke Zero, so I just need to work out what to do with my evenings, at least until people come back :)

Chafe!

What the hell is one supposed to buy for the ‘rent’s 25th Wedding Anniversary? It seems they have transport sorted for their break away, so BANG goes the idea of a nice classy limo service, no not one of these tacky elongated contraptions… So back to square one. They have everything they could need. Chafe!

Just a quick one in a break from my code…

Listening to Radio 1,

Vernon Kay,

Does anyone else want to tear his fucking throat out to stop him ruining great songs by singing over them?

A randy badger sparked a police manhunt for a sex attacker when his howls of passion were mistaken for a woman screaming.
