I think it’s time for a bit of a rant, seeing as I’m still seething. Now, Bangor often lags behind the rest of the UK with things, this is something you come to expect and understand. January finally saw our waste collection service reduced to fortnightly for green (general waste) bins. Firstly, don’t get me wrong, this is possible, and reasonable to try and limit the size of landfill sites across the country.
However, it is not too much to expect that these general refuse bins are collected on the dates they are meant to be collected on. In our case, the bins are very much full, slightly overflowing even. Therefore, you can imagine my anger to find these bins still full on my return from work today. No letter, no moronic sticker to tell us why they decided not to collect, no funny little mascot telling us shit. What’s worse is that until recently, our recycling bin was simply left by the roadside, so this is hardly a new problem for us.
So, for now, I’m left sat staring out my window at these still extremely full bins wondering what exactly £99 a month council tax actually gets us. We don’t get bins collected, we have no pavements outside our house, or parking for that matter. From what I see at the moment, it seems vaguely like extortion, while being fully protected by UK law.
I’ll be waiting with great anticipatation for the response from my council, especially as the seagulls have now worked out how to open the top of the bin.
